This is an old recipe my mom has and he has been making for many many years. I think this is the best sugar cookie recipe ever. When I was younger I used to love helping roll the dough in colored sugar and putting them on the pan. Of course the best part is the final result of being able to eat them! I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. Come back and let me know after you make them and tell me what you think.
1 c. butter
2 c sugar
1 c. oil
pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
5 c. flour
2 tsp. Baking soda
Heat oven to 350
Cream butter and sugar together
Add eggs, oil, salt, vanilla
Sift dry ingredients (If you do not have a sifter you can wisk the dry ingredients gently in a bowl)
Add dry ingredients to mixture.
Roll into medium sized balls and roll in sugar (you can color sugar too with food coloring)
On a ungreased cookie sheet put dough balls on and flatten gently. (do not press down too hard. I use a bottom of a glass to press down)
Bake 13-15 minutes or until edges are brown.
Do not substitute butter for margarine or Crisco as it will alter the flavor and texture of cookies.
