Holiday Guide 2014
Every year I have always loved seeing the different Hess trucks in the store during holiday time. This year I received one for review. For those that do not know the history of the Hess truck here is some information that I found to be interesting.
Where it Began
A builder, visionary, entrepreneur, patriot and leader. Above all, a great father and family man. The remarkable qualities that made Leon Hess so special are at the heart of the Hess Toy Truck. Born in Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1914, Leon Hess grew up during the Depression. After finishing high school and unable to afford college, he bought a second hand truck and started a business delivering fuel oil to homes in New Jersey in 1933. When he passed away in 1999 at the age of 85, Hess Corporation had grown into one of the world’s largest energy companies.
Not long after opening the first Hess branded gas station in 1960, Leon Hess decided to offer families a fun, high quality and affordable toy for the holidays as a goodwill gesture to customers. With that decision, he created a toy for kids of all ages, the Hess Toy Truck, that has become a hallmark of the holiday season. Leon Hess wanted a toy truck made outstanding craftsmanship and innovative use of electronics. And he wanted to offer it at a price families could afford with batteries included— a concept that endures to this day.
The Hess truck acts as a transporter and launch pad with buttons to elevate the ramp. In addition, it has three realistic sound effects and 41 lights that flash or are steady. The truck has the 50 embossed on the cab side panels that designate this as the 50th Anniversary Hess Toy Truck.
The space cruiser has a retractable landing gear with three buttons to activate sounds and flashing lights. Also, it has three motion activated sound effects (climb, dive, and turn). A total of 8 lights, which includes a rear thruster panel that can be activated by a switch. A cargo door opens to reveal the Scout with folding wings and working lights.
The 2014 Hess Toy Truck and Space Cruiser with Scout retails for $29.99 plus tax and includes 6 batteries. In addition, there is also an official certificate of title available for printing at HessToyTruck.com after purchase. You can also purchase the Hess Toy Truck nationwide at Hess stations.
