Keep your Home and Garden Looking Great with these Helpful Hints

As a parent, I know how hard it can be to keep on top of your housework and garden maintenance. I don’t know about your children, but mine are not the type to sit and play quietly while I clean and tidy. Oh no, they like to get involved and make more mess.

With children constantly making a mess, work to do and dinner to prepare, as a parent it is hard to get a spare moment to think, let alone clean. And, that’s okay. It’s nothing to worry about, most parents of young children would admit that their homes and gardens are not a tidy as they would like them to be.

Although a messy home and garden is to be expected when you have young children to care for, there are some things you can do to try and keep on top of it.

Here are my top tips for keeping on top of your home and garden tidying:

Get up earlier than the children

Getting up earlier than the children is an excellent way to give yourself more time to get organized for the day. While this might not be doable every day, especially when the children keep you up, on days when it is, you will find yourself feeling less stressed and more energized.

By getting up before the kids, you can get dressed and take a shower, and then spend any free time in the day, dealing with household and garden chores.

Get into a routine

One of the best ways to give yourself enough time to tackle all the day to day household chores is to get into a routine. This will allow you to build cleaning into your day. This will allow you to teach your children that a certain time of day is for cleaning, so they won’t expect you to keep them entertained.

I suggest using an hour after lunch as cleaning time. Your children will have just been fed so should be satisfied and happy to keep themselves occupied for a while.

Hire some help

If you can afford to hire some help, then go ahead. If you struggle to keep on top of everything in your home and garden, hiring some help can make all the difference.

If you struggle with the ironing, hire someone to come in and do your ironing once a week. If you struggle to keep on top of the gardening, use Jim’s mowing services to keep your garden in good shape. If you lack time for hoovering, hire a home cleaner to do it for you.

Involve the children

Of course, young children aren’t always able to help around the house, but as they get older it is important to start involving them in the cleaning. You can get hoovers, mops and brooms that collapse down to the ideal size for children so that your little ones can give you a helping hand.

Admittedly, having the kids help you clean can sometimes be more of a hindrance than a help, but in the long run it is worth the effort. By involving your children in cleaning from a young age, you can teach them how important it is to help out around the house.
