The struggle of fitting everything into our home is something we’ve all experienced. It’s always difficult, no matter the size of your home. Like fish, we expand to the space we live in and fill it with ease! Even so, it can be even harder to fit everything into a small home. When you’re working with limited space, it can be a challenge to find places for everything. Are you living in a cluttered space? Have you had enough of returning to an overloaded home? Here are a few ways you can make a small home work for you!
HAVE A CLEAR OUT
The first step in making space in any home is to have a clear out. If your home is cluttered, your mind will be too. In all honesty, there’s only so much magic you can work in your home. If you’re going to make the most of the space, you have to be realistic about what you’re working with. Having a clear out can be ideal for your home and your health, so get started! Be brutal when deciding what to keep. Work out what you need, and get rid of everything else. Sell it online or give it away to friends. It doesn’t matter, so long as it’s gone! If you’re still struggling to fit everything in after your clear out, go back and get rid of more. You need to get rid of things until it all fits! It may be painful at first, but it’ll amaze you how much better you’ll feel after it’s all gone. The fewer belongings you have, the better you’ll feel! Those small rooms can’t work wonders, after all! You’ll only be able to cram so much in.
MAKE THE MOST OF THE SPACE YOU HAVE
Next on the agenda is to make sure you use the space available. That may sound strange, but we often forget to make the most of all our space. When working with a small home, it’s even more important to use the space. Have you got a spare room going to waste? Why not use it for storage? That’s not to say that you should let the space fill with clutter. Think, instead, about how it could become useful. Why not turn it into a study, with a sofa bed for guests? That way, you can install bookshelves and storage units! Think, too, about any outside space you might have. Could you put anything in the garage? Or, maybe you could look into portable storage buildings to install into your garden.
If you’ve done all the above and are still struggling, it might be time to get creative. Following traditional avenues of storage is one thing, but there are other options. Think outside the box about your storage options. Think about whether you could install storage space onto the backs of your doors. Or, how about underneath your furniture? Be innovative. If the space isn’t already there, you can always make it!
