2017 Jeep Compass Changes The Off Road Scene

Jeep looked at how it provided 4×4 technologies and decided to turn up the dial to eleven.  The 2017 Jeep Compass provides two brand new technologies that completely revitalize the game.  Not only that, but does it at over thirty miles per gallon.  How will it stack up against its competitors?  Jeep is willing to bet very well as it is manufacturing this model for over one hundred markets. 

Diving into the meat of the drive system is the Jeep Active Drive which is a full time 4×4 system that provides the ability to send one hundred percent of the torque to a single wheel if necessary.  The Jeep Active Drive Low provides a full time 20:1 crawl ratio for those rugged situations.  Five modes are available for both of these drives that include auto, sand, snow, rock and mud.  Trailhawk models come with a Selec-Terrain including Selec-Speed control with Hill-Decent Control.

To provide the enhanced fuel efficiency, a rear disconnecting axle and power take-off unit are utilized.  The Active Drive and Active Drive Low are only provided when the system detects a loss of traction. For additional clearance, the Trailhawk enhances ride height by increasing it nearly an inch with skid plates with red front and rear tow hooks that Jeep has made a signature.  The vehicle allows or a thirty degree approach angle and a twenty-four degree break over angle.  With aggressive seventeen inch off-road tires, the Trailhawk can allow for nineteen inches of water fording and provides up to a ton of towing capability.

Other features that are above and beyond the standard Jeep packages are the ability to select between three transmissions.  The first option is a class-exclusive nine-speed that is standard on all Jeep Compass 4×4 models.  As well, six speed manual transmissions are available with a 6.68 ratio spread and a 4.438 final-drive ratio providing excellent fuel efficiency.  The manual edition is available on both the 4×4 and 4×2 Compasses.   On the 4×2 models, a six speed automatic transmission that provides a 6.635 ratio spread with a 3.502 final-drive ratio.
