4 Embarrassingly Common Health Issues
Almost everyone will have to deal with an embarrassing health issue at some point in their lives. In most cases, the health issues can either be overcome, prevented or managed, but only if a person seeks treatment. To help you admit a problem, we’re looking at four embarrassingly common health issues.
- Excessive Sweating
Excessive sweating is often a result of an overactive sweat gland, or might be caused by a medical condition, such as heart disease, menopause, cancer or anxiety. Also known as hyperhidrosis, it can happen to a person even during cool temperatures.
In addition to a good antiperspirant, a doctor may prescribe medication that contains aluminium chloride to treat the condition. This can help to prevent stimulation of the sweat glands. Botox injections are also believed to prevent underarm sweating, as they can block sweat gland nerves.
According to the National Institute of Health, approximately half of all people will experience hemorrhoids by the age of 50. There are two different types: internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids
Internal hemorrhoids are situated inside the rectum, while external hemorrhoids are located under the skin surrounding the anus. The symptoms will include itching, anal pain or ache, painful bowel movements and/or bright red blood on a stool, toilet paper or inside the toilet bowl. Other symptoms may include constipation and straining during bowel movements.
A doctor may prescribe an over-the-counter cream, ointment or suppository for mild symptoms. However, a minor outpatient procedure may be necessary for painful or bleeding hemorrhoids.
- Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is a common sexual health complaint that mostly affects men under 40 years old. It often occurs in various sexual situations, such as sexual intercourse with a new partner. It may also happen if it has been a long time since a man last ejaculated, or if there are psychological factors, such as guilt, depression or anxiety.
It’s important to note that this is a common issue that affects millions of men across the world; yet, many men are often embarrassed to talk about the problem or seek help. Fortunately, there are a number of products that can be discreetly delivered to a person’s door to slow down the process. For example, you can buy delay sprays, wipes and creams to improve sexual performance.
Halitosis, also known as bad breath, is a result of a build-up of bacteria in the mouth, which is often due to smoking, food, a dry mouth or a chronic illness. The bacteria can often lead to inflammation, which can release a nasty sulphur-like aroma. There’s no shame in having this health complaint, as 95% of us will suffer from bad breath at some point.
Good oral hygiene is the most effective way to prevent halitosis. In addition to brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily, it’s recommended to attend regular professional cleanings from a dentist. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, too!
All of us at some point will experience a health issue we might be a little embarrassed to admit. Instead of allowing the problem to grow, it’s vital to seek medical help or find an appropriate treatment to help make the health issue a thing of the past.
