How to Improve Your Travel Experience in Los Angeles

How to Improve Your Travel Experience in Los Angeles

Are you about to take a trip of a lifetime to Los Angeles? Lucky you, it’s certainly going to be one of the best and will give you some amazing memories. But, what if you could turn an average trip into something amazing? It’s possible and I’m going to show you how below.

Get a Nice Place to Stay:

If you’re planning a trip of a lifetime, stay in style at one of the luxury vacation homes in Los Angeles. Sure, it may be more expensive than going to a hostel or hotel but it will also be worth it for the experience. Some are in Hollywood where you may be able to spot your favorite celeb and others overlook the Pacific Ocean. Investing in a very comfortable and luxurious place to stay in Los Angeles is one of the best ways to improve your travel experience.

Plan Your Trip:

Sometimes it’s nice to arrive at a new place and just go with the flow. Backpackers tend to do this and they seem to have an awesome time. But, Los Angeles is very different and it needs some element of preparation. Major attractions are quite far apart and traffic can be horrendous at certain times of the day. You really need to have an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do to make the most efficient use of your time.

Rent a Car:

This is related to the point above. Many tourists will either self-drive to LA or rent a car when they arrive at the airport. Having your own car gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore the city on your own terms. Taxis are very expensive and will quickly eat up your budget. Public transport is reliable, but who wants to spend hours waiting for the bus and going the long way around? Having your own transport in Los Angeles is certain to make your trip better.

Join a Tour:

Lots of tours operate inside and outside of Los Angeles that take people around the city or further afield. Exploring the city independently is fun and you can enjoy the places that you find interesting. But, unless you spend hours researching online before you go, you’re not going to understand what you’re actually seeing. Free walking tours are available on a daily basis where you simply show up at a set place and time. Private tours offer different packages such as going around on a Segway or visiting celebrity homes.

Experience the City Like a Local:

Locals know the ins and outs of the place where they live that the guidebook doesn’t tell you. This includes the best cafes, bars, and restaurants along with more specialist activities and experiences. You can make friends or ask someone who lives in the city to recommend where to go for live music or the best coffee. This gets you off the tourist trail and allows you to have a glimpse of what Los Angeles is like for the residents.

Sample World Famous Food:

The food in Los Angeles is amazing. You can eat at the high-end restaurants that are frequented by the rich and famous or simply have a bowl of pho at the local Vietnamese place. A wide variety of food is available to suit any taste and budget. The diversity of the city brings together a collection of ethnic restaurants in certain parts of the city. Food trucks also serve up some of the tastier snacks.

Catch a Dodger’s Game:

The Dodgers are the famous baseball team in LA. Games are held at the Dodger’s Stadium where you can eat the famous Dodger’s Hotdog. Baseball is taken very seriously in the United States and especially in Los Angeles. If you’re in the city when the team is playing, why not grab yourself a ticket and experience it for yourself? The atmosphere is electric, the crowd is noisy, and it makes for a fantastic experience for both fans and non-fans alike. If this is something that interests you, check out the fixture list and book tickets in advance as they tend to sell out fast.

Take a Day Trip:

Los Angeles is great, but outside the city is even greater. There are lots of mountains and national parks within an hour from downtown. Visit smaller areas in the mountains that are full of character including both a Spanish colonial and Danish town. Santa Barbara is also a popular day trip.

Don’t Blow All Your Money:

There’s nothing worse than having an incredible vacation and returning home to find that you’ve spent your entire budget twice over. It’s easy to overspend in Los Angeles, especially when you’re on vacation and are having the time of your life. But, this doesn’t have to be the case. You can find lots of free activities around the city and promotional discounts on the theme parks. Museums also have days where the admission is free.

If you take the time to plan and look into your options, it’s easy to get good value for money. For example, did you know that you can watch the latest movie for free at a pre-release screening or have free yoga lessons? Probably not.

The Bottom Line:

Take the time to plan your vacation to Los Angeles and splash out on a nice place to stay. If you follow the suggestions here, you’re certain to have an even better travel experience on your trip to LA.
